Photo – The District would like to say a big THANK YOU to the Opportunity House Aktion Club for attending the August Board meeting and joining Leaf a Legacy with a thoughtful and generous pledge to this campaign. The Aktion Club approached staff several months ago expressing a desire to help all kids in Sycamore by ensuring they always have a place to play. They chose to do this through a donation to Leaf a Legacy. And since they made their pledge in 2016, 50%!o(MISSING)f that amount will be matched by an anonymous donor!

Photo – The shoreline restoration at the Sycamore Park District Golf Course is complete. Yesterday, representatives from the Sycamore Park District, DeKalb County Community Foundation (IL), DeKalb County Watersheds and ENCAP, Inc. gathered to view the site and the 3 new interpretive signs (at tees 10, 13 and 15). Even though the project has been underway for only four months, park district staff have already seen several positive effects on water management and golf course maintenance. Over the next 3 years, ENCAP will continue monitoring and maintain the site. As the native plants become established, we will see a beautiful wetland landscape emerge as well as even more benefits to water management and quality, erosion control and reduced maintenance costs. The Park District sincerely thanks the partnering agencies who made this project possible and is proud to be the home of such an important initiative…the benefits will flow beyond the banks and into our community! sycamoreparkdistrict.com/stewardship dekalbcountywatersheds-il.org/index.html – Visit this link to learn more about DeKalb County Watersheds and the great things they are doing to keep our waterways healthy and sustainable.

Next time you drive down Route 64, check out the Leaf a Legacy donation tree. Staff added a segment today and the tree is growing! Thank you to the businesses and individuals whose contributions have gotten us almost 1/2 way to the $1 million goal – the District is proud to be your partner in this legacy! sycamoreparkdistrict.com/leafalegacy

Photo – Congratulation Sycamore Pool Lifeguard of the Week, Henry Fair, for setting an example of exemplary leadership and service! Henry’s favorite things about Sycamore Pool are the diving boards. His favorite aquatic animal is a blobfish and if he could have a superpower it would be the ability to breathe under water and talk to fish.
