Marlin Chaplin of Genoa expresses his concerns about a proposed amendment to remove zoning variances from the 40 acre rule. At issue with Chaplin is whether the County should continue to restrict property rights. He wondered why, under the current zoning that allows variance to the County’s 40 acre rule, the price someone paid for their property should be a consideration when a variance was sought.
Paul Miller, county zoning administrator, explained that all rights were those the government granted. That brought a gasp from the audience.
