Local businessman Cohen Barnes has sent a letter to other local people announcing his intention to run for Mayor of DeKalb (IL) in the April 6th, 2021 election. Barnes plans to formally announce his candidacy after the current election and no later than mid-December.
He is the second person to tentatively announce their candidacy to run for the Mayor of DeKalb. The other candidate is 1st Ward council member Carolyn Morris. Two other people have expressed their interest in the job to replace current Mayor Jerry Smith but have not publicly announced.
Barnes is the owner of Sundog services in downtown DeKalb. He previously served on the school board and was instrumental in getting the new DeKalb High School built.
