Kishwaukee College is hosting Celebration of Dance, a free evening of Hispanic dance performances by three local dance troupes. The Celebration of Dance will be held on Tuesday, October 6 from 6:00 – 7:30p.m. in A1273 in the Kishwaukee College Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public and will include light refreshments.
The participating dance troupes include Ballet Nueva Imagin, Rayitos del Sol, and Ballet Folklorico Xochiquetzal. The dance troupes will be performing traditional folklore dances from various regions of Mexico. Folklore dance is a unique and colorful celebration of culture and ethnic traditions that reflect a rich and varied regional history.
Ballet Nueva Imagen performs dances based on classic songs from the states of Jalisco, Sinaloa, Veracruz, and Michoacan, and also fuses traditional choreography with more contemporary music. Rayitos del Sol performs traditional dances that represent the states of Jalisco, Veracruz and Sinaloa. The Rayitos del Sol are young people between kindergarten through 12th grade from DeKalb, Sycamore and Genoa. Ballet Folklorico Xochiquetzal perform a variety a traditional dances from Mexico, including Jalisco, Veracruz, Chiapas, Michoacan, Sinaloa, Norteno, Yucatan and Oaxaca. The group is made up of two small groups one ranging from ages 4 to 10 years and the other from 7 to 23 years.
