Due to a scheduling conflict the Member Roundtable, which was scheduled for August 9th, is being rescheduled for September.
The White House Business Council and the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce invite you to participate in a roundtable discussion this Thursday, August 9th on business opportunities with the federal government and the direction federal business will be moving.
Since April 2011, the White House Business Council has held over 500 meetings with business and civic leaders in all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. The purpose has been two-fold: 1) to get feedback on what the Administration can be doing more of – or less of – to support job creation; and 2) to ensure that local business leaders are aware of the Administration’s programs and resources that can help them grow, hire and succeed.
The feedback from these sessions directly informs Administration policy and the President’s plan to create jobs. Tax cuts and hiring incentives for small business owners and entrepreneurs, investments in infrastructure, manufacturing and a ready and trained workforce and the streamlining of government regulations, programs and services are all a direct result of these conversations. The conversation on August 9th will be an opportunity to further explore how the Administration can partner with the business community in Illinois to help the region grow and thrive.
The event is free of charge, though pre-event registration is required and space is limited. The event will run from 2-3pm August 9th in the Roberts Conference Room 3 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. This event is closed to the press. Please direct any questions and RSVP to Matt Duffy at matt.duffy@dekalb.org or (815)756-6306 .

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is an advocate of outsourcing U.S. jobs. It is good for corporate profits which they care more about than small businesses. They also are in favor of all the bad trade agreements the U.S. has committed to including NAFTA and the new TPP. These agreements undermine our national sovereignty, labor, and environmental laws. They are doing their best to complete the corporate takeover of America. Romney would support their agenda 100%.

Stephen,
I don’t think its correct to pile all Chambers of Commerce into one basket. In general, I would agree Chamber is a more fiscally conservative unit, as compared to President Obama’s leanings, but I do believe there are local variations in Chambers.
More importantly, Stephen, to what do you attribute the White House Business Council’s choice of DeKalb as a Chamber to host Ann Kalayil? She is certainly liberal in her politics and I find it a bit strange she would hold an event with a hostile Chamber if, as you seem to indicate, all Chambers are opposite the President’s notions.
To what do you attribute the choice of DeKalb and now the delay?
(By the way, I agree NAFTA was a bum deal for our country, but not at all sure Romney will be worse than Obama as far as “corporate takeover” and getting the nation on its feet again. After a term of lackluster Obama performance, I’m ready to try someone else.)

“This event is closed to the press.” What the heck does that mean? A White House sponsored Chamber of Commerce organized event and it is “closed to the press”? Who then may come? Is this a secret society or something? Special privileges group of development people? Why would it be closed to the press? Talk about lack of transparency! If this is tax supported in any way, is it even legal to bar the press?

I think they call it “pay to play” Kerry. 🙂 I’d ask George Ryan about it but he won’t be available for another year.

Mac-
I did a little research and found that Ann Kalayil is/was supposed to be at this event. She is a long-time supporter and campaigner for President Obama, who appointed her midwest chief of GSA in 2011. Ann and Barack apparently are good friends going back to their community organizer days in Chicago.
I wonder if the delay for this event has anything to do with all the bad press GSA has received lately regarding its incredible parties and unlawful spending? Not very good timing for Obama’s re-election odds.
What I find especially ironic regarding this “closed press” and “invitation non-transferable” (see DeKalb.org) Roundtable event, is Ann Kalayil’s public statements including her intention to “make the government more open and transparent” see: http://www.indiatribune.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4951:ann-kalayil-sworn-in-as-gsa-regional-administrator&catid=25:community&Itemid=457
‘Pay to play’ is simple compared to the subterfuge being practiced by this administration and some of its GSA officials!

Kerry I was referring to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that represents the interests of the multinational corporations. I didn’t mean to include local chambers. Obama’s “lackluster performance” is due to Republican obstructionism in Congress. It was Republicans that required tax cuts in the stimulus and reduced it from an adequate size. It was Republicans that blocked a buy American provision from the stimulus. It was Republicans that have laid of 800,000 public workers during a recession. Mitch McConnell declared during his first days that it was his number one job to make sure Obama didn’t get reelected. One would think that it would be his job to help America recover from this recession. It was Republican George Bush that invaded Iraq and was blissfully ignorant or incompetent during the housing bubble and financial collapse. Obama inherited this mess and he is supposed to fix it quickly? Republicans want America to forget Bush quickly so that is why he isn’t even going to be at the Republican convention.
