According to Reuters news, discount retailer Payless ShoeSource, Inc. is filing for bankruptcy and plans to close all of its approximately 2,300 stores in the United States. There is currently one Payless Shoes location in DeKalb County—at 2350 Sycamore Road in DeKalb.
Barring Payless finding a buyer at the last minute, the chain retailer is planning to have going-out-of-business sales next week at all of their stores.
Payless would join Claire’s as another national retail chain to close in DeKalb recently.
Sears declared bankruptcy in 2018, but Sears Hometown Store in DeKalb was not affected by the bankruptcy, as Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores Inc. was spun off from Sears Holdings in 2012.

Rachael Christine hey youâre the reason the American manufacturing is all China now.
Chris Walters Yeah, I’m sure all of those shoes at Payless were made in the USA.
All the rest of them will close once Gov. PUTZGER signs the new $15 minimum wage into law.
They were all already closing nationwide though? Totally unrelated…

Well crap! I was just there today!
The way of the future. Brick and mortar stores are no longer feasible.
Wrong answer
Michelle Bass Anderson what do you mean?
Brick and mortar are essential. People need to shop in stores for many reasons. Loss of jobs for one. Human interaction.
Michelle Bass Anderson I think you missed my point. I didnât associate a value with my response, whether good or bad. I simply stated an observable inevitability.
And although I too lament the loss of brick and mortar stores, itâs not the tragedy that some would have you believe. Jobs have been lost each time a revolutionary change occurs, but other jobs rise up to take their place. And there are plenty of better options than retail shopping to interact with your fellow man.
Specialty brick an mortar stores in particular. To survive in a world with Wal-Mart and Amazon, stores have To have a broader appeal. Progress does this….always has. Payless can’t survive when at least half of their old customers buy shoes on one of the hundreds of websites with free shipping and better selection.

Which address can the homeless use to have their shoes delivered from Amazon?
