The day after Valentine’s Day has been designated Singles Awareness Day. February 15th declares to the world that there is nothing wrong with being single. And if Valentine’s Day depresses you, remember that Valentine’s Day was created to sell cards, candy and flowers. If you care about someone, one day a year means very little.
In fact, there are quite a few benefits to being unattached. Singles can come and go as they please with no regard to a partner’s schedule, wants or needs. Career opportunity? A single doesn’t need to consult a spouse before accepting an offer. It’s also easier for a single to keep up healthy habits. There isn’t anyone to sabotage their efforts to work out and eat healthily. Singles also tend to be more self-reliant.
It is interesting that single people have a better social calendar than married people. Going out does not mean going to a bar to hook up. There are organizations out there to help everyone experience events and activities. The NICE Society in DeKalb County offers a variety of trips and tours for people to get out and experience things … from food tastings to museums to concert and theater premieres.
