DEKALB POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE, ISSUED AUGUST 16, 2018
Neighborhood Watch
The goal of neighborhood watch is to reduce crime by educating the community, increasing
reporting and improving communication among neighbors. Communication between each
neighborhood and the police department is also a vital element.
Residents and neighborhoods that are willing to communicate and interact with each other are better able to identify and report suspicious activity, thereby deterring potential criminal activity.
Residents are the eyes and ears of their neighborhood and can identify when someone or
something is out of place. By cooperating with each other and law enforcement, residents can help deter crime in their neighborhood in an effective manner.
In an effort to reduce crime the DeKalb Police Department would like to assist neighborhoods in implementing a traditional neighborhood watch or a virtual neighborhood [watch] through social media.
If you are interested in implementing a neighborhood watch, contact the DeKalb Police Department at (815) 748-8400.
