Ever wanted to be in a show? Love seeing plays? Now you can be part of the fun by joining Indian Valley Theatre at auditions for two upcoming shows this season. Auditions for both shows will be held in the Community Room at the Sandwich Opera House, 140 E. Railroad St. in Sandwich and are open to the public. Please be prepared for the auditions to sing a short song a cappella and do a cold reading from the script. No appointment is necessary and IVT membership is not required to audition, although it is required if you are cast. Audition forms may be downloaded prior to auditioning on IVT’s website.
The first show is “Beauty and the Beast Jr.,” directed by Susan Graham. Auditions will be Saturday, Sept 15th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Monday, September 17th from 5 p.m.to 8 p.m. and are open specifically to boys & girls 7-18 years old. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. With many fun supporting roles allowing students to play objects inside the castle, this “tale as old as time” is filled with spectacular costume and set opportunities. Performances will be at the Sandwich Opera House on Friday, January 18th at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, January 19th at 2:00 p.m. & 7:30 p.m., & Sunday, January 20th at 2:00 p.m. (with a school show on Friday, January 18th at 9:30 a.m.).
The second show will be “Don’t Hug Me – County Fair,” directed by Matt Johnson. Auditions will be Sunday, Sept 16th from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. It’s summer time and the Bunyan County Fair is approaching, the biggest thing that’s happened in Bunyan Bay since the winter carnival snowplow parade. This year the Bunyan County Fair means one thing to Gunner and Clara Johnson, owners of a little bar called The Bunyan: The Miss Walleye Queen Competition. Bernice, the pretty waitress, sees this as her big chance to win Miss Walleye Queen, to be discovered and more importantly, to have her face carved in butter at the Minnesota State Fair. The stakes have never been higher in Bunyan Bay. The trouble begins when Gunner’s wife, Clara, decides she also wants to win Miss Walleye Queen. Bigger trouble arrives when Gunner’s estranged twin sister, Trigger, shows up to try to win the beauty pageant. Performances will be for two weekends; March 1-3, and 8-10, 2019.
The auditions for IVT’s first show, “Scrooge – The Radio Musical,” directed by Kathie Hart, were held Sunday, Sept. 23rd and Monday, Sept. 24th. In this hit radio musical adaptation of Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’, Ebenezer Scrooge is the definition of a miser. He is rich, but completely stingy with his money, and he exploits the good nature of his employee Bob Cratchit. On Christmas Eve, however, Scrooge is in store for a rude awakening when he is visited by the ghost of his old business partner, Jacob Marley, who informs him that he is going to be visited by three ghosts, including the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present. Performances will be December 7-9, 2018.
