In this era of seemingly never-ending innovation and constantly developing technologies, it seems as if everything is getting smarter – cell phones, MP3 players, computers and tablets with touch screens, and even household appliances. Sometimes it’s tempting to skip the latest trends and stick with what has always worked. But when it comes to appliances – laundry machines for example – new “smart” technologies can really make life easier. How many times, for example, have you forgotten that you had a load of laundry in the washer until it had been sitting there getting musty all day? How many times have you realized you’ll have to iron because you didn’t remove shirts from the dryer right away? Wouldn’t it be nice if the machines could remind you that your laundry is done – even when you’re out of hearing range or even out of the house?
“Smart” laundry appliances can do that and more – and it’s not as difficult to use them as you might expect. All you need is the right appliance, a smartphone, and an APP. It’s really as easy as that.
We’ve talked on this blog in the past, for example, about how Samsung is one of the world-class appliance brands that incorporates smart technologies into their laundry machines. The company’s “Smart Control” system helps homeowners control and monitor Samsung clothes washers from their iPhone or Galaxy phones. The company has developed an App that offers remote control access of their 4.5 cu. ft. King-size Capacity, Touch Screen LCD Front-Load Washer. Users can monitor their laundry’s progress from anywhere in the house, or even from outside the home. The washer sends notifications, for example, when the wash cycle is finished. A wireless network is required.
Whirlpool also offers some impressive “smart” appliances. The company’s “Smart Duet Pair” of laundry machines with Sense Live™ technology enables users to know when clothes are clean, to manage energy usage, and even to control a laundry load from a remote location inside or outside the home. And Whirlpool doesn’t stop getting smart with laundry machines – the manufacturer also offers a Smart Refrigerator with 6th Sense Live Technology. This amazing appliance lets you know if the power goes out (no more melted freezer items!), helps manage your drinking water and even controls temperature settings. All of these functions are at your fingertips even when you’re away from home.
Earlier this year, LG unveiled a new series of smart appliances that “reflect the company’s vision for a more connected, eco-friendly lifestyle.” The company’s new appliances are equipped with innovative device-to-device connectivity and the LG Home Energy Management System. LG’s smart refrigerators and smart washing machines can be monitored from either a Smart TV or a smartphone. For example, you could monitor the status of your laundry cycles from a TV screen without being physically present in the laundry room.
If you’re organizing your kitchen around a new set of appliances, consider the LG’s signature Linear Compressor, the company’s flagship smart French-door refrigerator equipped with a full range of Smart ThinQ™ technologies. Among them is Smart Manager, which transforms the refrigerator into a complete food management system. Homeowners can use the refrigerator’s LCD panel or their smartphones to check the food items stored inside, as well as their location and expiration date. And using the Smart Manager’s Freshness Tracker, users can enter various food items, such as eggs, milk and vegetables, and check their suggested expiration dates. The refrigerator even recommends dishes that can be cooked using the ingredients available in the refrigerator.
