Ryan Block
My name is Ryan Block and I am running for Village President for Kirkland.
I have lived in Kirkland since 2006 in the Country Meadows subdivision. I married Jennifer Block (Littlejohn/Marshall) this past October and together we seven kiddos. Yes… the Brady Bunch has nothing on us!! Between school and sports schedules there is never a dull moment!
I currently work for Caterpillar Inc. as a Product Application Specialist. I have been with CAT since 2000, starting as an Engineer, transitioned into Sales and Marketing roles in 2009 and currently Field Rep positions since 2014.
Relative to education, I graduated from Burlington Central High School, completed my Bachelor’s Degree from Northern Illinois University in Mechanical Engineering in 2006 and received my Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Aurora University this past August (2016).
I was elected to the Hiawatha School Board in 2015 and currently serve as Board President. I have learned a lot working with the other Board Members and Administrators in this short time. In the past two years, the Board engaged in great leadership training and workshops to understand expectations, help establish goals and objectives for our school district and broaden our overall knowledge as Board members. I have also spent time volunteering as softball coach for both Hiawatha High School and Kirkland Girls Softball and soccer coach through AYSO.
I feel that the qualities that make me a good candidate are that I am hard working, strive for open communication and emphasize listening to the needs of others. I will leverage my educational and professional experience to deal with matters facing the Village of Kirkland. I am open-minded and willing to accept others thoughts, opinions or assistance. I will never have all the answers and I will always continue to learn, so these experiences and interactions with the community will aide in my development as Village President.
