The DeKalb County Health Department Solid Waste and Recycling Program will be composting pumpkins after Halloween. You can choose to compost pumpkins by placing them with your landscape waste at home or you can drop them off in one of the City of DeKalb’s landscape recycling drop-off locations
Drop-Off locations include:
• Fire Station #2 – 1154 South 7th Street, DeKalb
• City Garden Plots, west of Fire Station #3 – 950 W. Dresser Road, DeKalb
• The southeast corner of North 7th Street and Oak Street, DeKalb
Please remove all attachments and decorations prior to dropping pumpkins in the landscape dumpsters. Landscape collection drop-offs will be open until November 30, 2016.
The benefits of composting pumpkins:
- It provides vital nutrients back into the soil
- It saves water (by reducing evaporation in the soil)
- It reduces methane gas in the landfill (prevents food waste from decomposing in the landfill and creating a potent greenhouse gas)
