Northern Illinois University President John G. Peters today announced a further administrative restructuring that includes the appointment of F. William Nicklas, associate vice president of Institutional Planning and Sustainability, as temporary acting director of Public Safety. The NIU Department of Police and Public Safety will now report on an interim basis directly to Nicklas, who reports directly to the president.
In addition to serving as the chief administrative and operating officer for the City of Sycamore for over 13 years, Nicklas also had responsibility for the city’s financial management, city planning and economic development, and was the chief law enforcement officer. Nicklas also served as city manager in DeKalb from 1992 until 1997 where he had similar roles and responsibilities. He is a board member of the DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation.
Nicklas will step aside from his role as acting director of Building Services, and Assistant Vice President of Capital Budget and Planning Jeffrey Daurer will assume primary management of the Building Services unit, along with his other duties.
Eddie R. Williams, chief of operations and executive vice president of Finance & Facilities, recommended this temporary restructuring to Peters to provide a more direct and concerted management focus of the Department of Police and Public Safety during this interim period.
Peters formally requested Illinois State Police review of the NIU Police Department earlier this week.
