Illinois Valley Community College is offering a 50-hour EKG Technician Certification Program that begins May 27 and continues through July 29 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Ottawa Center.
The comprehensive program prepares students to function as EKG technicians, who set up and run tests and support doctors in detecting heart conditions. An EKG (electrocardiogram) records the heart’s electrical activity.
The course includes important practice and background information on the anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress testing. Students will practice with EKG equipment to learn its function and proper use and perform other clinical practices in lab settings.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for certification exams. The National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Certified EKG Technician (CET) Exam will be administered in person at the end of the course and is included in the cost of the program.
Tuition is $1,299.00, and students may qualify for 50 percent off through a Noncredit Strategies at Work Grant. Call 815-224-0427 to register or visit www.ivcc.edu/enroll. Use class ID 27990.
