Kirkland Woman Accidentally Shoots Herself

On November 20, 2017 at 9:15am, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the home of Vernon and Jane Johnson in the 5000 block of Old State Rd., Kirkland for a report of a gunshot victim. The call was received through 911 that the victim (Jane Johnson, D.O.B. 12/16/44) had accidentally shot herself in the chest with a small caliber hand gun.

First deputy on scene administered first aid until Kirkland Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence and the hospital. The investigation has confirmed that no foul play is suspected, and the gunshot was self-inflicted. The victim remains in stable condition at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
