Adult learners can prepare for the GED exam by taking free classes offered through Kishwaukee College’s Adult Education and Transition Programs division. GED classes cover Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics. Adults work at their own level and speed. GED preparation classes are free for the participants. Classes begin the week of August 25. Students may enroll through September 3 and then again from October 6 – 9 in any of the classes.
There are GED classes that meet at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb. A GED class that focuses on Math and Science will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays through December 8, from 9:00 – 11:40a.m. With sufficient enrollment, childcare will be available through the Family Literacy Program for children from birth through age 10, while their parents are in class the Math and Science GED class. A second GED class that focuses on Language Arts and Social Studies will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays through December 9, from 9:00 – 11:40a.m. There will be no childcare available for the Language Arts and Social Studies class at Westminster.
There are also GED classes held in Sycamore at Sycamore High School, 55 Spartan Trail (park in back along the baseball field and use the W2 entrance; the class is in room T-160). A GED class that focuses on Language Arts and Social Studies will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays through November 19 from 5:30 – 8:10p.m. A second GED class that focuses on Math and Science will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays through November 18, from 5:30 – 8:10p.m. There will be no childcare available at either of the GED classes held at Sycamore High School. Spanish GED classes are taught in Spanish only and are designed to prepare participants to take the GED/high school equivalency exam. Spanish GED classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays,
August 25 – December 8, from 6:00 – 8:40p.m. at Conexión Comunidad, 637 N 11th in DeKalb. Monday classes will focus on Language Arts and Social Studies and the Wednesday classes will focus on Math and Science. There is no childcare available for this class.
There is also a Spanish GED class offered at Kishwaukee College on Tuesdays and Thursdays, August 26 – December 9, from 6 – 8:40p.m. in Room C1203. This class will cover all four GED subject areas – Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science – during both days. There is no childcare available for this class.
