It has been 70 years since the U-505 was taken down by sailors, becoming the only German submarine captured by the U.S. Navy during World War II.
David Smith, who lives here at Heritage Woods, was among the sailors who seized the submarine. He joined nearly two dozen other veterans last week to honor the anniversary of that momentous military victory.
