Dr. Michael David
NIU’s School of Nursing and Health Studies will host Dr. Michael David as the guest speaker during the 2015 Graduate Colloquium, scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 8.
David, assistant professor in Section of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago, will speak on “Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA): Epidemiology and Impact of a Superbug around the World.”
The lecture will take place in Cole Auditorium (Room 100 of Cole Hall). Remote access will be available through Adobe Connect.
The lecture is free and open to the public, and CEUs are available for qualifying participants.
All are invited and encouraged to attend.
Dr. David studied medicine at Yale and epidemiology at the University of Chicago. In addition to caring for patients with infectious diseases, he studies the epidemiology of Staphylococcus aureus infections and colonization, and he is especially interested in the prevention of the spread of MRSA.
He has studied clinical, behavioral and demographic risk factors for infections with MRSA in jails, households and hospitals. He has an interest the molecular epidemiology of MRSA; that is, how strain types (determined by “genetic fingerprinting”) of MRSA vary over time and space and in the disease syndromes that they cause.
David has collaborated with scholars in the United States, Europe and Australia on these issues and is co-organizing a conference on MRSA research in Beijing, China, in April. David also studied the history of infectious diseases, focusing on the control of tuberculosis in the former Soviet Union.
