The Operatic World of Puccini

Regarded as one of the greatest names in all Italian opera, Giacomo Puccini carried on the traditions of greatness that had previously been firmly established by the likes of Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, and Verdi. Throughout the course of his career, Puccini went on a tireless quest to achieve greatness, and his music resounds with a passionate beauty that still fills our concert halls to this very day. During this program, we will discuss some of his most significant life events, some of his best-known operas, and the legacy that he left behind after his death on November 29, 1924 at the age of 65. From his earliest days studying at the Milan Conservatory, up through the haunting story behind his final opera, “Turandot,” participants will get to know the brilliant man behind the timeless music. 3D Design: Earrings

3D printing isn’t just for the toys and fidgets popular during our Open Labs. You can also create stunning, one-of-a-kind jewelry—best of all, there’s no need to be an expert! We’ll use the online program Tinkercad to design earrings with personal flair, then print them using our machines. For beginners, this program will introduce Tinkercad’s basic functions and inspire you to learn even more. For those who already have Tinkercad experience, there will be an opportunity to learn how to utilize SVGs to really bring your vision to life. Great History Books: Nature’s Metropolis

After-hours Concert: Duo Dahlia

Duo Dahlia combines the timeless instruments of flute and harp to bring audiences a rich aural soundscape of beautiful and unique timbres. Join us in the library’s main lobby as they perform music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th century eras, and promote works by living composers. Based in the Chicagoland area, Duo Dahlia has performed in various chamber recitals and competitions, including performances affiliated with Epiphany Center for the Arts, Northern Illinois University and Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra. Each performance brings together the diverse solo careers of the members with historically informed performance practices. Gianna Capobianco is a freelance flutist and teacher based in the Greater Chicagoland Area. She has a wide range of performing experience and has played in masterclasses for renowned flutists such as Jennifer Gunn, Bonnie Boyd, Marie Tachouet and Jennie Oh Brown. Abigail Stoner is a concert harpist and pianist in the Chicagoland area. She has performed with the Fox Valley Orchestra, Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra, Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra, and others. This concert is sponsored by Gretchen and Charles Moore. Opening of The American Revolution Experience Traveling Exhibit
