This is certainly one of the busiest times of the year in DeKalb County, between Fall Harvest celebrations, Halloween events, and the huge, week-long Pumpkin Festival in Sycamore.

Ghosthunting at the Library
October 16, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – Sycamore Library
This exciting event will let you be the paranormal investigator! Dan Norvell’s expert team will share their techniques & equipment for investigating haunted locations ,& YOU will take part in an actual paranormal investigation!
YMCA Halloween Bash
October 19, 2018, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. – NIU Convocation Center
Families are encouraged to wear their costumes and have fun together. The event will feature the popular Fear Factor room, haunted house, crafts, games for a variety of ages, sports activities, on-site vendors and prizes. It’s sure to be a great opportunity to get active and enjoy some quality family time!
Public Paranormal Events
October 19 & October 20, 2018, 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. – Sandwich Opera House
This event is a guided public investigation. Midwest Ghost Society members will be on hand with equipment and knowledge to help guide your investigation. After a brief introduction and check in upon arrival we will be splitting into groups and exploring the opera house together. We run real evp sessions and demonstrate basic paranormal investigation equipment. Group members will be with you to answer questions and help guide your sessions.
Somonauk’s 3rd Annual Hometown Harvest
October 20, 2018, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. – Heartland Bank & Trust Parking Lot; Somonauk, IL
We’ll have events going on through the day: Bounce House, Conference Bike Rides, Camp fire and S’mores, Face Painting, Fire Department Open House, Fire Truck Rides, Free Hot Dogs, Hearing Tests, Truck and Tractor Show, Vendors, Wagon Rides, Meet the Author.
Sandwich Halloween Street Fest
October 20, 2018, 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. – Derailed Bar, 48 E. Railroad Street; Sandwich, IL
Putting a spooky twist on sandwich summer days, Derailed will be hosting its first spooky Halloween themed street fest, featuring music from D-classified, The Eliminator Band, Snap Shot, and DJ Famou5. $5 admission, raffles, outdoor food, bags, water pong, mechanical bull! and a fun filled night of dancing the night away!
Ghost Stories in the Park

Kick off Pumpkin Fest week with an evening of scary fun! Phyllis Horst, local storyteller, will sing and tell stories of monsters, zombies, ghosts and ghouls to get you in the Halloween mood. Bring something to sit on and someone to hug. This program is suitable for all ages. FREE.
STEM Café: Frankenstein’s Legacy: The Past, Present, and Future of Anatomy and Synthetic Biology

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, we will engage in a lively discussion about dead bodies and body parts. Hear how scientific quests for knowledge led to grave robbing and even murder right here in DeKalb County. Learn how ethical practices in body procurement and preservation have advanced modern medicine. Find out how scientists are applying this knowledge to engineer and fabricate body parts. History of Halloween

Join presenter Mike McCann and discover all about the history of Halloween during the spooky season. Co-hosted with the Sandwich Park District, this program is sure to be spooky fun.
Sycamore Downtown Trick-or-Treat
October 24, 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – Downtown Sycamore, IL
Kick-off Pumpkin Festival in downtown Sycamore during our Trick-or-Treating event sponsored by Illinois Community Credit Union! Downtown businesses will hand out tasty treats from 4:30-6:00 p.m. Then make your way to the courthouse lawn for the giant cake cutting!
Movie at the Library: Hotel Transylvania 3

Downtown Halloween Spooktacular
October 25, 2018, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Downtown DeKalb, IL
The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, City of DeKalb and The Downtown Merchants present the 21st annual Halloween Spooktacular, a Downtown DeKalb Trick-or-Treating event. Dress up in your best Halloween costume and bring the kids out for a safe, fun, trick-or-treating event at over 30 downtown businesses displaying an orange “trick or treat here” sign.
Pumpkin Celebration
