The contractor has cancelled the two electronics collection events in DeKalb and Genoa tomorrow because of the predicted weather for Saturday. Look for them to be back weather permitting in March.
This coming Saturday, February 1st, 2014 and every first Saturday of the month in 2014 (except December) is the Recycling Collection days in both DeKalb and Genoa. In DeKalb, the collection is at City Lot #3 at Grove and S. 4th St. from 9am to 11am. In Genoa, the collection is at City Hall, East Lot from 12:30 – 2:30pm.
Items prohibited from being disposed of in a landfill include but are not limited to: Televisions, Monitors, Printers, Computers (laptop, notebook, netbook, tablet, desktop, etc.), Electronic Keyboards, Facsimile Machines, Videocassette Recorders, Portable Digital Music Players, Digital Video Disc Players, Video Game Consoles, Small Scale Servers, Scanners, Electronic Mice, Digital Converter Boxes, Cable Receivers, Satellite Receivers and Digital Video Disc Recorders.
Items accepted include: Any object that plugs into a wall socket or has a battery (ie: phones, cameras, saltellite receivers, refrigerators, computers, VCR’s, lamps, everything listed above, etc.); Cardboard, Plastic, Scrap Metal, Tube TV’s/CRT Monitors / Flat Screen Monitors (only one tv/monitor per vehicle per month).
Remember to protect your data. If you are recycling a laptop or desktop computer, your personal data could still be on your hard drive. Most recyclers have hard drive wiping policies, but it is always in your best interest to protect your personal information by erasing or destroying your hard drive. There are many hard drive wiping software programs available.
