Our office just recently learned that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will NOT be mailing deer hunting permit applications to hunters this year as usual. The change is intended to save mailing costs. No public notification of the change in policy is planned.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources already hosted the first firearm deer permit lottery in late April and has scheduled the second lottery for August 15th. There will also be random daily lotteries held from September 13 through October 3 for those who wish to obtain permits.
To apply for the hunting permits for deer or wild turkey, go to: www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/Pages/ApplyForDeerOrTurkeyPermit.aspx and click the “Resident Firearm Deer Permit Application.” Completed applications can be mailed to DNR or returned on-line.

This economic depression is getting everyone, even when it comes to mailing out deer hunting permit applications. I hope and pray everyday that it gets better for all of us.
