Cortland Festival and Parade Sunday

In celebration of the Town of Cortland’s sesquicentennial they ask all members of the community to join them for the 34th annual parade. The Cortland Festival and Parade will kick off at 1:00 p.m. this Sunday, October 11th, 2015, and will feature members of local bands, scout troops, clubs and other organizations. Participants also receive hot dogs, chips and beverage after the parade, graciously donated by the Cortland Lions Club and Festival and Parade Committee.

Beginning staging for the parade begins at 11 A.M. at N. Loves Road and W. Cortland Center Road. The parade steps off at 1 P.M. rain or shine. Please follow directions for vehicle travel in the drop off areas. Safety is the main concern. Cortland’s parade route this year is Loves Rd. (S) to Carol Ave. (E) to Hickory Dr. (S) to Pine St. (E) to Somonauk Rd. (S) to Maple St. (E) to Llanos St. (N) to the Cortland Community Park.

The Parade Committee will be hosting a small After-Parade Festival at the Cortland Community Park after the parade. Vendors will offer food for purchase. All are welcome and there will be fun for all ages.  Kids attractions include; the ‘Yo-Yo’ Swing, Gladiator Joust, Bungee Run, Trackless Train, 3 in 1 Castle Bounce and Photo Booth. Attractions cost one ticket each (tickets are 1-$1 or 6-$5).

Food vendors for the Festival include Sunshine Ice Cream Scoop Shoppe, Cassie’s Popcorn, Taco Real, Dough Brother’s Pizzeria and Hy-Vee. The DJ will be Craig Donnelly. Shop from the Church Bake Sale as well as other Crafts and Vendors.

TOWN OF CORTLAND SESQUICENTENNIAL TIME CAPSULE OPENING

As part of the Town of Cortland’s 150 year celebration, a time capsule is being buried at Cortland Community Park following this year’s Annual Parade. The capsule is being donated to the Town by Mayor Russ Stokes and his wife, Ginny. The burial is being done by the Public Works Department.

All Town of Cortland Departments will be submitting items to the capsule that may serve to have historic meaning, or at least public interest, when it is exhumed as part of the Town of Cortland’s Bicentennial Celebration in Year 2065. Those items may include paper documents, photos, clothing, and small tangible items that may reflect something about what our lives are like now in 2015.

All residents and community groups are asked to submit items for burial at the site on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at 3:00pm. PLEASE SUBMIT THOSE ITEMS IN A PLASTIC SEALABLE CONTAINER TO MAINTAIN THE INTEGRITY OF THE SUBMITTED ITEMS UNTIL THEY ARE EXHUMED IN 50 YEARS!

The contents of the Time Capsule will serve to tell the story of what the Town of Cortland is like today to future generations of our residents! So come on, everyone! Cortland Senior Club, Cortland Lions Club, Cortland Library, Cortland Elementary School, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cortland Lightening Baseball, Local Businesses, and Families!

Monetary donations are being accepted by the committee to help offset the cost of the parade. Donations should be sent to Town of Cortland Festival & Parade, PO Box 519, Cortland, IL 60112-0519.
