The City of Sycamore is pleased to announce that it will soon implement the CodeRED Emergency Notification System provided by the Emergency Communications Network. The CodeRED system gives city officials the ability to quickly send telephone calls, text messages, emails, and social media in an effort to effectively inform residents about situations regarding emerging conditions. The system can geographically target specific areas within the City and the Sycamore Fire Protection District for localized alerts such as storm-related emergencies, evacuations, hazardous materials spills, lock downs, downed power lines, water system problems, missing persons or other emergencies.
The first phase of implementing the high speed notification system is the gathering of contact data from citizens and businesses. The City has been provided an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers, however all residents living within the City of Sycamore or the Sycamore Fire Protection District are encouraged to visit the City of Sycamore website at www.cityofsycamore.com and click on the CodeRED link to enroll additional contact information including cell phone numbers, text and email addresses. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, those who have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number.
Registration is free and easy. All contact information provided to CodeRED is protected with the highest security and will not, under any circumstances, be shared with any party. Those citizens without internet access may use the computer labs located at the Sycamore Public Library during normal business hours.
In approximately one month, the city will conduct a performance test of the notification system to test the various methods of contact and to determine how quickly notifications can be delivered to the entire community in case of an actual emergency.
