The City of DeKalb is pleased to announce the selection of its next Finance Director, Molly
Talkington. Ms. Talkington is an accomplished finance professional with more than 15
years of progressive fiscal management experience. Ms. Talkington has in-depth
knowledge of municipal accounting and finance with expertise in budget development
and management, as well as capital improvement program development and
implementation.
Ms. Talkington comes to DeKalb from Champaign, another university town, where she
served as the City of Champaign’s Financial Services Manager and Budget Officer for the
past six years. In that role, Ms. Talkington developed and managed a budget in excess
of $140 million. Prior to serving the City of Champaign, Ms. Talkington served in other
financial management positions in the Village of Glenview and the City of Naperville.
Ms. Talkington received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin
at Whitewater and her Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in
Fiscal Management from Northern Illinois University. “As a graduate of Northern Illinois
University, I am excited to return to DeKalb to serve the City and its residents,” said Ms.
Talkington. “I look forward to supporting the City’s development efforts while retaining its
history through my work in the Finance Department.”
Ms. Talkington is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
She currently serves as the Vice-President for GFOA’s downstate chapter, which includes
DeKalb.
“I know we have found the best candidate to oversee the management of the City’s
finances,” said City Manager Anne Marie Gaura. “Molly brings a great deal of municipal
finance experience to the City’s management team. I am confident that, under her
leadership, we will be able to continue to address the fiscal challenges facing the City and
identify solutions for our capital infrastructure.”
Ms. Talkington will be starting employment with the City of DeKalb next week and her first
day at City Hall will be Wednesday, September 20, 2017.
