I wondered what will happen with Flint, MI. I thought it hit rock bottom as depicted in "Roger & Me," which dates back twenty years.

Isn't DeKalb essentially already doing this?
Until something replaces what the city has knocked down, DeKalb is currently underway with this plan. Who'd thunk, forerunners to even President Obama.
Truthfully though, many of our own neighborhoods have homes that just aren't fixable any longer. This due to many who lived in the home either not knowledgable about maintaining their property or many who just couldn't afford to do so. I see this being the new trend in the near future as to build a new home in a new subdivision today has just plain gotten out of control.
Fortunately today, many homes are now broken down and many parts of that home are separated into recycled goods and not all are going to landfills. This will become a problem however if many homes go the way of the wrecking ball.
