Children’s Community Theatre will provide campers a trip into outer space at its Beginner’s Imagination Camp, scheduled for June 11-23. The theme for the two week theatre camp is “2012: A Space Odyssey.” Children will ‘launch’ into the stars at 17,500 mph about CCT’s very own space command module. Campers will not only learn a thing or two about the galaxy, but will create their very own theatrical performance, complete with cosmic songs and gravitational dance.
In its 7th year, Beginner’s Imagination Camp is open to students who will be in Kindergarten through 6th grade in the fall of 2012. Camp session runs from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. each day at NIU’s O’Connell Theatre, and concludes with two public performances on Friday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. Cost of the two week camp is $95 and includes daily instruction, as well as participation in the two public performances.
“We do our best to keep the cost of our camp as low as possible,” said Kris Pagoria, President of CCT. “We realize that times are still tough, and for about $7 a day, we hope your children can be a part of this too.”
CCT also will return with the 6th edition of its Advanced Imagination Camp, designed for students entering 7th grade through 12th grade in fall 2012, and includes graduating seniors. Advanced Camp also runs for two weeks, June 18th through July 1st at NIU’s O’Connell Theatre, and will culminate with four performances of “Legally Blonde: the Musical.”
College sweetheart and homecoming queen Elle Woods doesn’t take no for an answer. So when her boyfriend, Warner, dumps her for someone serious, Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books and heads for Harvard Law School. “Legally Blonde: the Musical” will take students from the social whirl of California campus life to Harvard’s Halls of Justice.
“Advanced Camp is much more intense,” said Pagoria, who also directs the advanced production. “We literally put on a full scale musical in just two weeks, and students are treated to every aspect of creating a musical.”
Daily instruction includes music, acting and choreography needed for the show, but also will expose students to other instruction like stage combat, improvisational acting, character development, costume creation, make-up design and more. Cost of the two week camp is $125 and includes daily instruction; a “Legally Blonde” cast T-Shirt, participation in four public performances and a dinner during a dress rehearsal.
To register for CCT’s Imagination Camp, visit the organization’s website at www.CCTOnstage.com or find CCT of DeKalb on Facebook. Enrollment for both camps is limited and tends to fill up quickly. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
