Northern Illinois University’s College of Engineering & Engineering Technology (CEET) is hosting its annual job fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday in rooms 354 and 358 of the Engineering Building (590 Garden Road). Thirty-six companies already have registered for the fair, and more than 250 students are expected to attend.
NIU’s engineering students are in high demand. Last semester, 100 percent of CEET seniors had been placed in positions before graduation. The job fair provides even freshmen the opportunity to secure internships for their sophomore year.
Employers value the job fair as it reduces recruiting costs while allowing them access to prized NIU students.
NIU’s Undergraduate Engineering Program was named among U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Colleges 2013” at schools where the highest engineering degree offered is a master’s degree. The College boasts three state-of-the-art labs sponsored by industry leaders: the Baxter Reliability Lab, the Mitutoyo Metrology Lab and the Automation Direct Lab. CEET offers 17 professional organizations, including: Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), National Society for Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), Engineers without Borders (EWB), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).
CEET places NIU and DeKalb County as strategic links to Illinois’ efforts to attract manufacturing-based jobs and inventive entrepreneurs. According to the latest data the state ranks 5th in the number of patents issued. Nearby Naperville was recently ranked the 11th most inventive city in America due to the high number of patents issued there.
