Gracie made us one of those Facebook Fan Pages. The image on the right is our avatar. That’s me on the left, Gracie’s on the right and that’s Professor Corny Injun blasting off in the middle.
Professor Corny Injun is our official corporate mascot. To hold such a high position at DeKalb County Online the chosen mascot had to be the first thing people think of when they hear someone say DeKalb County Illinois. Folks, we simply do not have the money to buy a building, tear it down and put up a heated walkway with a heated curved roof. We have to take a more utilitarian approach.
So, the Professor is a flying ear of corn (using more modern technology, of course). Note that our mascot is a professor. That’s how important education is to this county.
It’s a colorful ear of corn because it’s Indian corn. Native American might be more PC than Indian. Some suggest that “injun” might be an offensive word. Frankly I feel a little insulted, or at least embarrassed that, even after 150-some years, the Shobney land claim and status remains unsettled.

PERHAPS THE PICTURE OF YOU AND GRACIE WOULD BE BETTER SERVED WITH A REINACTMENT OF THE PAINTING AMERICAN GOTHIC.

Hey Bruce! I used Corel Paint Shop Pro's spheroid effect to try to make Gracie and I look like we're looking at life from a fishbowl. I thought about mimicking American Gothic but if some people saw me with a pitchfork in my hand they might get the wrong impression. Or would they… 🙂
