Cindy Tucker, director of KishHealth System Physical Therapy, and Chris Laurent, athletic trainer and 5K race director, of Unlimited Performance Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine, KishHealth System’s physical therapy department, presented a $2,800 donation to Adventure Works Executive Director Lynette Spencer, MSW, LCSW. Proceeds from the annual Unlimited Performance 5K Run/Walk are matched by KishHealth System and then donated to a local non-profit organization each year. This is the first time the health system has donated to Adventure Works.
Spencer said, “Adventure Works is extremely grateful for the opportunities given by Unlimited Performance through this fundraising 5K run. I know putting on an event such as this is a lot of work and the team at Unlimited Performance did an awesome job!”
Adventure Works is a non-profit adventure therapy agency, founded in 2010 to serve children ages six and older. The organization’s mission is “to assist youth in becoming healthy adults by providing positive intervention through adventure therapy.” Adventure Works is one of a four agencies in the United States based in Adventure Therapy, operating in a non-profit model. The concept is based in residential wilderness therapy and bringing these benefits to the community in an affordable way. Adventure Works offers individual, family and group counseling services, which are experientially based in adventure, primarily conducted outdoors in the natural environment. They utilize forest preserves, parks, area lakes, and rivers in its programming.
“$2,800 is an amazing gift to our small non-profit agency. This will provide for five children living below the poverty line to each attend an eight-week adventure therapy session in any one of our weekly groups!” continued Spencer. “This is a phenomenal gift and will help these children tremendously.”
