October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Why don’t we call this….”Prevent Breast Cancer” month? We would like to share with you some of the facts that are missing from traditional literature. Did you know that if you “optimize” your Vitamin D3 levels – meaning 50 ng/ml – 80 ng/ml – then you can reduce your risk of colon, breast, prostate and other cancers by up to 77%? Having a Vitamin D3 blood test is one of the most important health screenings that you and your family can have. Family Health Center offers a Vitamin D3 screening – schedule yours for only $79 – do not supplement with Vitamin D for 24 hours prior to the test.
Another issue that is of concern today is the levels of Estrogen Dominance that is ever present in women, children and men. Called “xeno-estrogrens”, these are man-made, synthetic chemicals, which inside our bodies mimic estrogren causing hormonal imbalance and sets us up for disease. Xeno-estrogrens come from the hormones that are used in livestock to encourage growth, plastics, petroleum that is so present in health & beauty items, and from the environment. We suggest supplementing with Diindolylmethane, or DIM for short, stimulates more efficient estrogren metabolism. Check out our article on Estrogen Dominance in our Oct/Nov/Dec 2013 newsletter on our website. Take a short quiz to see if you may be estrogren dominant.
Another hot topic is mammograms. Did you know it takes eight years for a cancerous tumor tumor in the breast to grow large enough to be seen with a mammogram or MRI? In addition, with each mammogram you are subjected to radiation exposure as well as compression of the delicate breast tissue.
We believe that we can re-define “early detection” with Thermograms. Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging, or Thermography, is just now being recognized as the next frontier in safer, more effective screenings for numerous health issues. Thermography offers earlier detection of possible breast disease because it works in an entirely different way. It is known that when a tumor is in the early stages of development, it requires blood flow to grow and survive. New blood vessels form in a distinct pattern around the tumor to provide it with this blood flow (angiogenesis) and we are able to see this process occurring with thermographic imaging as early as two years into the development process. Because this process looks different, physiologically, from fibrocystic changes, thermography can actually distinguish between the two, saving a lot of unnecessary concern, and possibly, medical procedures.
Thermography also provides an image of inflammation and lymphathic congestion in the breasts, which may contribute to disease, if left untreated. By screening for the early stages of, and precursors to disease, thermography provides a truly preventative way to watch and maintain breast health, instead of simply detecting already existing cancers … and it does all this with no radiation and no compression!
If you want to know more about thermography, our partner in health prevention, Wellness Concepts, LLC out of St. Charles, is hosting a thermography seminar at the St. Charles, IL public library on Oct. 19 from 9:30 – 11:30. In addition, Wellness Concepts is offering 20% off all thermograms during the month of October. Family Health Center has flyers for the thermography discounts.
