The Sycamore Park District has announced that its golf facility, Sycamore Park District Golf Club, will open for play beginning Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 8am. The course will be open for walking only.
No riding carts will be available until the turf is strong enough to handle the cart traffic. The mild winter was good for the course and it shows very little turf damage. The Superintendent of Golf Operations, Kirk Lundbeck, and the Superintendent of Parks and Facilities, Jeff Donahoe, feel the course will green up very quickly once the temperatures warm.
There are several factors in determining the opening of the golf course:
All the turf areas need to dry sufficiently enough to support maintenance vehicle traffic as several days of winter clean-up are needed to prepare the course prior to play.
The turf also needs to be firm enough to support golfer traffic even if carts are held off for a while. Foot printing on the fairways and greens along with pull-cart tire tracks can cause uneven playing surfaces and can be difficult to level out once the soil does firm.
The turf needs to be green and starting to grow in order to recover from divots, ball marks, and cart traffic. This will not begin until the soil temperature reaches the 50 degree range on average.
The golf course will offer special preseason rates. The weekend rates for 18 holes will be $23 and the nine hole rate will be $13. On weekdays 18 holes will be $20 and nine hole rates will be $10. Rental push carts will be available for player until riding carts begin to run at a cost of $3.00.
The opening of the golf course is a great time to take advantage of their NEW and LOWER Golf Season Pass rates. If you plan on playing at least 4 times a month a Season Pass is the way to go! The fully stocked pro shop will also be offering preseason sales on merchandise.
Hours of operation for the facility will be 7am to dusk, 7 days a week. Once the temperatures warm reducing chances of frost and turf strengthens the course will open earlier in the day. For more information, visit them at Sycamoreparkgolf.com.
