Open house to promote safety awareness for families and greater community.
The Sycamore Fire Department will be hosting their third annual open house event on Saturday, October 19th from 11:00 – 2:00 at Fire Station #2, 2100 Frantum Road in Sycamore. The open house will a community event, jam-packed with engaging and educational activities for all ages.
“The open house is a way to engage the community in multiple ways” said Firefighter/Paramedic Ian Wheeler. “People will be able to meet, ask questions and learn more from first responders and other crucial members of the community who are working to make sure families are safe”. Wheeler says there will be many tours, activities and displays, including; fire station tours, face-painting, ambulance and fire engine, helicopter, snow plow, police car, command vehicle and tow truck tours, safety booths sponsored by ComEd & Nicor, adult & child firefighter combat challenge courses, live demonstrations of motor-vehicle accidents and fire extinguisher demonstrations. Wheeler adds that a hotdog lunch will also be provided.
The Fire Prevention Week theme for 2019 is, “Not every hero wears a cape, Plan and Practice your escape”. Sycamore firefighters are trying to promote that all residents develop and practice escape plans regularly. This open house will be a great chance to ask any questions regarding home safety that are specific to the residents.
