The Park Districts in Sycamore, DeKalb and Genoa are all having Park Clean Up Days this Saturday, May 2nd, 2015. Why volunteer? • Improve YOUR Parks & Natural Environment • Enjoy time outdoors with YOUR Neighbors • Learn more about YOUR Park District • Share YOUR Love for the Land with Others • Get YOURself some Exercise
Sycamore Park Pride Day
Sycamore Park District is looking for help from the community to pitch in for one morning to help fix our parks! Be a part of this “Park Pride” Event this Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 from 9am until noon. If you use the parks, have a love of gardening, or just want to be a part of this event, then come out this morning and help us improve YOUR parks.
Each park will need a variety of things done to them, whether it’s cleaning, weeding, planting, or more. Volunteer for a specific park or be assigned to a location in need. A list of parks will be available on the Sycamore Park District’s website, closer to the work day. Park District staff will be driving from park to park delivering supplies, answering any questions and delivering water. As a thanks, all volunteers will be given a free t-shirt and are invited to a 12pm luncheon at Good Tymes Shelter.
DeKalb Workday at Prairie Park: Garlic Mustard Pull
Garlic mustard is an invasive species within our woodlands. Come help restore the Oak-Hickory woods at Prairie Park. Training and bags will be provided. Please wear gloves and sturdy shoes or boots and meet at tee #1 on the disc golf course at 9am. There will be a walk after the pull to look for native woodland plants and critters. Prairie Park is located at Glidden Dr. and Clifford Ave. in DeKalb. For more information, contact Josh Clark, Park Foreman at (815) 739-6459.
Genoa Township Park District Park Volunteer Day
The Genoa Park District is asking for your time and talents this Saturday as well. Painting, planting, weeding, spreading mulch, pulling weeds, trimming shrubs and much more is needed. Help them for 3 hours and people will enjoy your hard work all summer long. Please bring a pair of gloves. If you have a lawn or garden rake it would be helpful if you could bring it. Individual, family and group volunteers are welcomed. They will find a spot for everyone that can help. Even if you can only commit to 1 or 2 hours. To Volunteer please contact Doug Kenney 815-784-5612 ext. 12 or dougk@genoaparks.com. So they can plan in advance, please contact the Genoa Park District by Friday, April 20th. However, they will take any and all volunteers even if you cannot commit until that day
