Eight visitors from Belize will share global perspectives on Belizean athletes and coaches during a panel discussion from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Capitol Room of the Holmes Student Center.
The delegates will share their personal stories related to sport. Many are current and former elite competitors, including an international cyclist, a soccer player and a professional basketball player. They will connect their experiences to Belize’s needs for youth sport as well as share descriptions of their current professions related to youth development.
Significant time for audience questions will be included. The event is free and open to the public; refreshments will be served after the panel discussion.
Wednesday’s panel is part of a week-long training session and workshop to teach the visitors from Belize how to use social responsibility as a method of productive coaching.
The Belizean Youth Sport Coalition Project was made possible by a $224,956 grant to the Physical Activity and Life Skills (PALS) Group at NIU from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The three-year grant funds a project to support youth sport organizations in Belize and to integrate youth development into the Belizean programs and coaching practices.
