(DeKalb) – Meet at the DeKalb Public Library on the second Tuesday of every month for a book club just for seniors.
Meet on Tuesday, March 10, at 11:00 a.m., to discuss The Island of Sea Women. In her unique novel Lisa See introduces readers to the fierce and unforgettable female divers of Jeju Island and the dramatic history that shaped their lives.
Mi-ja and Young-sook, two girls living on the Korean island of Jeju, are best friends that come from very different backgrounds. From a very early age these girls train to be free-divers as part of a strong and independent all-female diving collective who are typically capable of holding their breathes for up to two minutes as they dive deep to harvest the sea. Read this decade-long story of a matriarchal society of female divers in a world turned upside-down where the women engage in dangerous physical work to feed their families.
Books will be available in the Adult Services Department. Some large print copies may be attainable. Also available in Libby in audio and eBook form.
This book club is intended for adults. No registration is required. It will be held in the Nancy D. Castle Collaboration Studio.
