The Collision Repair Technology (CRT) program at Kishwaukee College received a generous donation from the Sawicki Motor Company in Rochelle: five vehicles in need of body work. Greg Brink, CRT instructor, stated, “Vehicles with body damage are used by students in class. They are a great learning tool! I am grateful to Sawicki for thinking of our program and donating the vehicles.”
The five cars are a 1999 Mercury Sable, 2004 Chevy Cavalier, 1994 Suzuki Sidekick, 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 1999 Chevy Malibu. Mike Myers, General Manager at Sawicki Motors, explained, “We have donated to the Collision program before. The five cars are not eligible for retail and would be either sent to wholesale or the junkyard. We are always looking to support our local community and, by donating the cars to Kishwaukee, the students are supported in their education and in turn become better future employees for us.”
One of the hallmarks of Career Technologies programs at Kishwaukee College is the opportunity for real world, hands-on practice of what the students learn in the classroom. Brink added, “We are always looking for cars that have a lot of body damage—the car has no resale value or anything, but for our purposes, these vehicles are perfect. Students can really roll up their sleeves and learn to use their skills on actual vehicles in our shop setting. That is why the donation by Sawicki is exciting for our program—this spring, the students in CRT will have some great learning experiences due to a local company’s generosity.”
