The Relay For Life of DeKalb County’s Luminaria Vigil is this Thursday, December 13th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the DeKalb County Courthouse, 133 W. State St. in Sycamore. Relay For Life participants and donors remember loved ones lost to cancer and honor those battling the disease by dedicating luminaria.
Luminaria, paper bags containing votive candles, are transformed and illuminated after dark at every local Relay For Life event. Each luminaria is personalized with a name, photo, message or drawing in memory or honor of a friend or loved one who has been affected by cancer. Luminaria can also be dedicated in support of a Relay participant. Each luminaria candle represents a person. They are our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, coworkers, and so many others.
There will be treats, carolers, and a short ceremony to honor all those who have battled cancer. Luminarias can be purchased at the Vigil from 6:00-6:30pm, online at www.RelayForLife.org/DeKalbIL, or by calling the American Cancer Society at 630.879.9009 x3. Luminarias purchased for the Vigil will be set up on the front lawn of the courthouse, as well as at the Relay For Life of DeKalb County on June 14th, 2013. Please contact Molly at 630.879.9009 x3 or at molly.link@cancer.org if you have any questions.
