Come on out to Honey Hill Orchard near Waterman for Pumpkin Harvest weekend this Friday through Monday, October 10-13, 2014. It’s really a great way to kick off the Halloween season. Honey Hill’s pumpkins will be specially priced, so it’s a great time to head out to the Pumpkin Patch to find that perfect Jack-o-lantern pumpkin. They will also be giving away three giant pumpkins over the weekend. Get your carving supplies ready–you may be one of the lucky winners!
Honey Hill Orchard is a family-owned and operated orchard that was started as a hobby in 1965. Today, the original orchard location has 2,100 apple trees, with an additional 500 trees at a second farm location. What started out as a simple farm stand has grown to include pick your own apples, raspberries and pumpkins, a bakery, the Apple Barn Country Store, farm animals and family activities. On weekends and Columbus Day, pulled pork barbeque, hot dogs, and PB&J are served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Honey Hill is famous around the area for their cider donuts. You can smell ’em as soon as you get out of your car! After sampling them in the Feeding Trough, you’ll want to be sure to take some home to enjoy later or share with family and friends. They freeze well and taste great heated up in the oven at 350 degrees for 7 to 8 minutes. Make sure you pick up some fresh apple cider this writer’s favorite, Honey Hill’s carmelnut apple pie to take home too.
