Illinois AMVETS Post 90 will host a day of activities to honor our heroes on September 10 from 10am until 6pm at the VFW, 421 Oak Street in DeKalb. Both Patriot Day and MIA/POW Day fall in the month of September. To honor these heroes, Post 90 will be hosting a blood drive and an honor’s ceremony.
AMVETS Post 90 will honor those in our community who stand ready to keep us safe and assist us in an emergency this Saturday, September 10th, all day long. The DeKalb Police Department, Fire Department and professional at the KishHealth System (part of Northwestern medicine) are those individuals being honored. Help them recognize these individuals by coming out and taking part in the festivities.
A Table of Honor will be displayed, where you can personalize a luminaria with your hero’s name. In addition to an awards presentation for our local heroes, veterans can also learn about benefits they may have earned and how to go about receiving those benefits by visiting resource tables.
The following groups will be available to show their support at this event: The Mayor of DeKalb, AMVETS Department of Illinois, Illinois AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary, Illinois Sons of AMVETS, DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commission, Sycamore National Guard, the VFW and more.
At the end of this event, you are invited to take your luminaria home and proudly display it on September 11 for Patriot Day and September 16 for MIA/POW Recognition Day. Show your support for all of our heroes, willing and ready to help and defend us in our time of need.
