Earlier this year, the award-winning DeKalb High School marching band learned it had been selected to participate in the 2017 Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. Since that announcement, the students, staff and a dedicated group of band enthusiasts have been working hard to raise nearly a quarter of a million dollars needed to make the trip a reality. The DHS Band Parents Organization (BPO), which has coordinated a variety of fundraisers over the course of last year, is excited to share that it has saved some of its most exciting fundraising activities for this fall.
The BPO’s Draw Down committee is pleased to share with the local community some fantastic opportunities to win big while helping to band to meet its fundraising goals.
First, tickets are now on sale for a Meat Raffle. This special drawing will take place on December 10 in conjunction with an exciting Drawn Down event. The meat raffle features a choice of a beef bundle valued at $700 or one of two pork bundles valued at $300. The beef bundle includes 20 lbs of steak, 85 lbs of hamburger and 15 lbs of roasts. The pork bundles each include 15 lbs of breakfast sausage, 10 lbs of brats, 15 lbs of pork chops, 10 lbs of bacon and 20 lbs of ham.
Meat Raffle tickets are priced at six tickets for $5 or 12 tickets for $10. Ticket holders need not be present at the December 10 Draw Down to win. To purchase tickets, you can visit the DHS Band Parents table at one of the upcoming varsity home football games at DeKalb High School, contact a DHS band student going on the trip, or, call Claudia at (262) 758-0859. Another great way to support the Marching Barbs will give ticketholders the chance to win a variety of cash prizes, including a grand prize of $5,000! A draw down is a reverse raffle in which every single ticket is drawn and the last ticket wins the big prize. You have a one in 10 chance to win your money back as every tenth ticket drawn receives $50. The 1st, 100th, 200th, 300th, and 400th tickets drawn will receive $100 or more. The evening will be a fast-paced night full of fun, raffles and a silent auction. The Draw Down and Meat Raffle are two primary fundraisers still coming up to help support the DeKalb band’s international trip. The 2017 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin is part of Ireland’s international St. Patrick’s Day Festival and will allow the band to perform in front of half a million people. While in Ireland, the Marching Barbs will also perform additional stand-and-play concerts at prominent historical sites. Members will have the opportunity to learn and engage in another culture. For many, it will be the experience of a lifetime. The DeKalb High School Band Parents Organization, working in conjunction with the DeKalb Music Boosters, hopes to raise almost $250,000 to offset travel costs for about 100 band students. Currently, the group has more than $170,000 still to go to reach its goal. In addition to the exciting Draw Down, there will be a fall product sale for both Butterbraids and boxes of Fannie Mae chocolate. There will also be a fun Quarter Craze Auction and Vendor Fair at Hopkins Park on Nov. 11.To stay up-to-date on planned fundraisers to support the band, visit www.marching2irleand.com.
