Spring weather brings sunshine, scholarships and, oh yes, swinging golf clubs.
Online registration is now available for the fourth annual Tee Up Fore Scholarships golf outing, hosted Wednesday, June 11, by NIU’s College of Engineering and Engineering Technology (CEET) in partnership with Caterpillar Inc.
Golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate. The event is sponsored by Caterpillar and all profits are donated toward the CAT and Friends Scholarship fund. Participants can register for one of four levels of sponsorship: Contest Hole, Team, Scholarship and Individual.
Previous events have included hundreds of Caterpillar representatives, vendors and current CEET students; this will be the first year registration is available to college alumni and friends.
“In past years the golf outing raised more than $40,000 in scholarship funds for current engineering students,” said Amanda Carrier, marketing specialist and alumni coordinator for the college. “The golf tournament is aimed at providing financial support to bright engineering students and has provided 16 students with scholarships.”
Event sponsors and organizers hope to continue to provide students with financial support, shape engineering fields in the community and set an all-time high for donations. Carrier explained that participants’ generosity will pursue the engineering profession and increase the vitality of our region.
The Tee Up Fore Scholarships golf outing will take place at the Whitetail Ridge Golf Club, 7671 Clubhouse Drive in Yorkville, Ill. Registrations begin at 7 a.m. Tee off is at 9 a.m. A lunch and award ceremony will conclude the event at 2 p.m.
“The event is a great networking opportunity for participants. Many of the companies that Caterpillar brought to past years’ golf outings, now hire our students for internships and full time placement,” Carrier said. “The event has really evolved, and we look forward to getting back on the course.”
