Join the NIU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic and the NIU Physical Therapy Clinic for their Allied Health and Communicative Disorders Open House Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event will be held at the NIU Family Health, Wellness, and Literacy Center located at 3100 Sycamore Road in DeKalb, and will feature guest speakers, STEM activities, free health screenings and clinic tours.
The open house is free and available to the public.
“The Allied Health & Communicative Disorders Open House is a great opportunity for community members and program alumni to tour our state of the art facility, get more information on clinical offerings and interact with our graduate students and staff,” said Joy Robackouski, director of the NIU Speech-Language-Hearing and Physical Therapy Clinics, and Allied Health & Communicative Disorders.
Scheduled talks include:
- 10 a.m.: “The Sweet Mythery of Hearing: Myths and Facts About Your Ears,” presented by NIU audiologists Dr. Diane Schecklong and Dr. Danica Billingsly
- 10:35 a.m.: “Diabetes, No End Insight,” presented by Dr. Masih Shokrani, NIU associate professor of Medical Laboratory Sciences
- 11:10 a.m.: “Developmental Milestones and Meaningful Play,” presented by NIU’s Dr. Christina Odeh, assistant professor of Physical Therapy and Dr. Danai Fannin, assistant professor of Speech-Language Pathology
- 11:45 a.m.: “Making the Transition from High School to Employment: How the Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services can Help,” presented by Lori Tschetter, senior rehabilitation counselor at the Illinois Department of Human Services
- 12:20 p.m.: “What does Vincent Van Gogh have to do with Balance?,” presented by Dr. Blythe Kitner, audiologist from the NIU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, and Dr. Mary Jo Blaschak, associate professor of Physical Therapy at NIU.
