In a recent FOX news report it was stated that Scouts would not be putting flags on Veteran’s graves this year. This report was for selected Scout units and not nationally.
DeKalb area Scouts, scout’s families, and members of the DeKalb American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, and others are putting flags on local veterans graves in DeKalb this Saturday, May 23.
“Memorial Day is an important time for both the Boy Scouts and members of the DeKalb American Legion,” stated Commander Daniel Gallagher. “We can do this project and still keep social distancing”.
There will be no formal event this year at the Ellwood House as in past years. “We could not have a formal event but will have a virtual reality ceremony that will be posted on Monday, May 25,” commented Amy Doll, DeKalb Park District Executive Director. “We couldn’t let people come to the event, so we are bringing the event to the people.”
