A total lunar eclipse will spawn a rare and dramatic ‘supermoon’ blood moon this Sunday evening, September 27, 2015. Supermoons occur when the moon reaches its full phase at or near the satellite’s closest approach to Earth, and appears abnormally large and bright as a result. The Sept. 27 event is quite special; the last supermoon eclipse occurred in 1982, and the next won’t take place until 2033.
Bring the family out to Katz Park in DeKalb this Sunday. The park will be available for viewing the eclipse from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm on Sunday night. This park is a great place for unobstructed sky-watching. A telescope will also be available as well. Katz Park is located at 393 Dresser Rd. in DeKalb. This event is sponsored by the DeKalb Park District.
