As quoted from President Obama’s Veteran’s Day Proclamation;
“The selflessness of our service members is unmatched, and they remind us that there are few things more fundamentally American than doing our utmost to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Making a difference in the lives of others is a most noble cause and one that can be exercised in many ways in our day to day lives. It is wonderful to see that even in these awful economic times, Americans continue find ways to help others. Exemplifying the President’s statement, several local area businesses are offering free services to recognize local area veterans this Veteran’s Day.
Twenty local auto repair and dealership sites are participating this year in the 3rd annual free oil change initiative. The Military Student Services organization at Northern Illinois University helps coordinate the event each year. Veterans and service members should bring along a U.S. Uniform Services ID or a U.S. Uniform Services Retired ID in order to get an oil change. Those wishing to get a free 4-5 quart oil and filter change are encouraged to call and schedule an appointment in advance as scheduling is limited at certain locations. Trucks, vans and diesel engines are excluded from the offer.
