The Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra presents its spring concert, “The Rite of Spring,” its 38th season finale, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall of the NIU Music Building.
Joining Igor Stravinsky’s masterpiece on the program are Symphony No. 31 (“Paris”), by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; and “Songs of a Wayfarer,” by Gustav Mahler, featuring baritone Gerard Sundberg. Music Director Linc Smelser will present a free pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. in Room 173 in the NIU Music Building.
This performance is supported in part by the Ideal Industries Foundation with a generous gift from Jean Juday. Tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the concert. All seats are general admission (no reserved seating). Individual ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors 62 and olderr, $10 for students and $5 for children younger than 12.
Saturday’s concert is also the culmination of ARTigras, DeKalb’s inaugural celebration of the arts.

Next week, the KSO is one of the organizations participating Tuesday, May 5, in Give Local DeKalb County.
The DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership, an initiative of DeKalb County Community Foundation, is facilitating the event as part of Give Local America, a national day of local giving.
The 24-hour crowdfunding event provides critical funding for community partners across the country. Individuals giving to the KSO will have a choice to direct their donations to either the orchestra’s endowment fund or general operating fund. The minimum donation is $25, but there is no limit on how much can be donated. A $500 donation can support a student scholarship and a $1,200 donation can recognize the donor as a named chair sponsor for the entire season.
For the second consecutive year, DCCF has donated $20,000 in proportional matching funds to amplify every donation that comes in May 5.
