The Continuing Education department at Kishwaukee College is offering a variety of classes this fall for area residents.
Self Defense will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, October 2 – November 29 from 5:45 – 7:45p.m. at the Sycamore Public Library. This class includes work on stance, punches-kicks- blocks, conditioning, foam props, and two-man exercise. The instructor is Sifu Paul O’Laughlin who holds a Black Sash in Chuka Southern Praying Mantis King Fu. The cost for this class is $150 and includes a class t-shirt.
Laughing Yoga meets in single sessions on October 11, October 16 (both dates meet in Room B2301 at the College), November 14, and November 15 (both dates at C1133/1134 at the College). All sessions meet from 6 – 7:30p.m. Haysa Yoga, as it was called in ancient India, is a simple, yet powerful practice that can produce changes in mood, confidence and health, and help participants connect to their true selves. The instructor is Allison von Ende who is certified in Laugha Yor by Bharata Wingham. The cost for a single session is $15.
Drone Pilot: Why Do I Need a License? meets on October 23 from 6 – 8:00p.m. in Room C1251 at Kishwaukee College. This class covers the requirements for the FAA Part 107 license that covers commercial and private drone use. The cost for this session is $10.
Tai Chi with Tom will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from October 24 – November 28 from 11:00 – 11:45a.m. at Barb City Manor. Tai Chi is practiced worldwide for health, wellness, relief of pain, and improved physical ability. Research shows the practice of Tai Chi also reduces the incidence of falling and improves practitioners’ quality of life. This slow-moving, easy-to- learn program is beneficial to adults with or without physical limitations. The instructor is Lt. Tom Scott, retired Sycamore Police officer and owner of Hero Martial Arts, who is a certified Tai Chi instructor. Participants should wear
comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes. The cost for this class is $49 ($25 for ages 60 years and up).
