The 35th District was redistricted to pit two Republican incumbents against each other. There are no candidates from the Democratic Party in the 2012 Primary for the 35th District.
It includes areas of Boone, DeKalb, LaSalle, Ogle and Winnebago counties in northern Illinois and is comprised of all or parts of Belvidere, Caledonia, Capron, Cherry Valley, Clare, Cortland, Creston, Davis Junction, DeKalb, Earlville, Genoa, Hillcrest Village, Hinckley, Kingston, Kirkland, Lee, Leland, Lindenwood, Loves Park, Malta, Maple Park, Monroe Center, Poplar Grove, Rochelle, Rockford, Roscoe, Sandwich, Shabbona, Somonauk, South Beloit, Stillman Valley, Sycamore, Timberlane and Waterman.
State Senator Dave Syverson was first elected to the Illinois Assembly in 1992. He was raised and educated in Rockford where he and his wife of 32 years Shirley raised their two children. In 2010 he was given the IMEC Manufacturing Award for his support of policies and legislation enabling small and mid-sized manufacturers to be more productive and globally competitive. Senator Syverson has also been awarded the: Sen. Syverson serves as Assistant Republican Leader in the Senate and as the Republican Spokesman for the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. He serves on the Senate Appropriations, Public Health, and Insurance Committees, as well as the bipartisan Government Forecasting and Accountability Commission and the Governor’s Council on Health and Physical Fitness. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rockford Area Economic Development Council, Rockford Machine Tool Association, National Federation of Independent Business, the National Association of Financial Planners, Serves on the Board of Just BEe, and on the Board of Advisors for Reformer’s Unanimous International. | State Senator Christine J. Johnson represents the 35th District and was sworn in on February 14, 2011, into the 97th General Assembly. Previously, Sen. Johnson served as the DeKalb County Treasurer since 1994. She replaced Sen. Brad Burzynski, who retired from the General Assembly after two decades of service. Sen. Johnson has received recognition from several organizations for her work, including being named a Paul Harris Fellow for the Rotary Club in 2010, the NIU College Republicans’ “Conservative Leader” award in 2003, the Illinois County Treasurer Association’s “Treasurer of the Year” award in 2003 and the Zone IV “County Treasurer of the Year” award in 2003. Sen. Johnson received her Bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University, where she was also president of the school’s College Republicans organization. She has also served in campaigns for several elected officials, including Governor James R. Thompson and President Ronald Reagan. Sen. Johnson currently resides with her husband, James, in Shabbona. |
