Openlands is partnering with ComEd to administer the ComEd Green Region Program. Recognizing that open space in our communities is crucial to the quality of our lives, ComEd has committed to supporting municipalities, townships, counties, park districts, conservation districts and forest preserve districts within ComEd’s service territory. ComEd designed the ComEd Green Region Program to assist local communities’ efforts to plan for, protect, and improve open land by providing funding for some expenses towards these goals.
The City of Genoa received a $10,000.00 matching grant on behalf of ComEd and Openlands. The money received through ComEd and Openlands helped fund the City’s Trail Project. The Trail Project extends around the City’s Prairie Project and along some wooded area near the Kishwaukee River. The trail connects the Russel Woods Forest Preserve providing additional nature trails and recreational amenities.
The City of Genoa greatly appreciated all the support that they received from individuals, agencies, and organizations that helped support the trail project. In addition to the grant money they received through the ComEd Green Region Program, the DeKalb County Forest Preserve District donated $5,000.00 and the Genoa Township District provided in-kind help, both agencies support greatly contributed towards the completion of the trail project.
